How Come????

Most of you know I don't try to beat ya over the head with my dusty old King James Bible. HOWEVER,,,, The question arises..... How do they know when Easter along with it's applicable events occur each year?

According to the Bible, Jesus Christ's death and resurrection occurred around the time of the Jewish Passover, which was celebrated on the first full moon following the vernal equinox. This soon led to Christians celebrating Easter on different dates. At the end of the 2nd century, some churches celebrated Easter on the day of the Passover, while others celebrated it on the following Sunday.

The dates of many Christian holidays depends on the Easter date. Some of these holidays include; Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Aension Day, and Pentecost/Whitsunday.

In 325 AD the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox.(*) From that point forward, the Easter date depended on the ecclesiastical approximation of March 21 for the vernal equinox.

(*) Easter is delayed by 1 week if the full moon is on Sunday, which decreases the chances of it falling on the same day as the Jewish Passover. The council’s ruling is contrary to the Quartodecimans, a group of Christians who celebrated Easter on the day of the full moon, 14 days into the month.

Not all Christian churches observe Easter according to the Gregorian calendar. Some churches still observe Easter under the Julian calendar. However, the Gregorian calendar was created because the Julian calendar was slightly too long. With the Julian calendar, the equinox date moved towards the earlier dates of March and further away from the Easter. Therefore, the introduction of the Gregorian calendar allowed for a realignment with the equinox.

I have always wondered about the variation in the date Easter is celebrated. Your explanation still leaves me with a puzzled look on my face. Maybe Easter is determined by the time that the Easter bunny comes out of hibernation. You can't have Easter without it.

Good luck with the ice storm. We had freezing rain here too with snow pellets on top. I was out this morning removing them from the deck, and it was slippery.

We ent to go out this morning and our kitchen door was snowed shut! LOL that's never happened before! JD's been out moving some snow but it's still coming down blowing and drifting. From what I've heard the I-35 and avenue of the saints is down to 1 lane.

I think "lunacy" has to do with the powers of the Moon Too! LOL But this is how the ecclesiastical fathers determined the date ad perpetuum for the Christian Community.

I wish I could have had a time lapse camera on our snowdrifts here today. Above freezing with rain showers OFF & ON since noon.. some of the showers very intense at times.
